Homemade Margherita Pizza
A classic Italian pizza with simple, fresh ingredients that let the flavors shine. Perfect for a homemade pizza night!
Ingredients
- For the dough:
- 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp sugar
- 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- For the topping:
- 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 8 oz fresh mozzarella, sliced
- Fresh basil leaves
- Salt and pepper to taste

In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

Add warm water and olive oil. Mix until a dough forms.

Knead on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Preheat oven to 475°F (245°C) with a pizza stone if available.

In a small bowl, mix crushed tomatoes, garlic, olive oil, oregano, salt, and pepper.

Divide dough into 2 portions. Roll each into a 12-inch circle.

Spread sauce over dough, leaving a border for the crust.
